WHO IS JODIE AND WHAT DOES SHE STAND FOR?

For those who don't know me, here are my top four items on political matters.

1. Protecting Personal Rights and Freedoms
First and foremost, personal rights and freedoms must never be lost or overstepped. Government should not assume control over the rights and liberties guaranteed to us.

2. Smaller, Transparent Government
We must work toward a smaller government with greater transparency. Albertans deserve to understand why decisions are made, how they are made, and to know that their voices are being heard. People need to feel supported and connected to something larger than themselves.

3. Agriculture, Education, and Rural Representation
Agriculture:
As a farmer’s wife on a fourth-generation farm—soon to celebrate its Century Farm & Ranch designation—we are clearly sustainable, yet agriculture is too often portrayed negatively. Only 2% of the population produces food for everyone. If agriculture fails, nothing else functions. This reality must be acknowledged and respected.

Education:
With my academic background rooted in education, I believe strongly that it is the cornerstone of our future and our children’s future. Parents and schools should operate as partners, not in confusion or conflict. Choice, communication, and access are essential.

Rural Representation:
Urban centres often outweigh rural communities simply due to population. However, what works in the city does not always work in rural areas, and vice versa. Rural perspectives must be represented—not overlooked—because both voices are vital and must work together.

4. AHS and Healthcare System Reform
The AHS system is struggling, and Albertans deserve better. We currently have only 175 ICU beds for a population of 4.6 million—an unsustainable situation. For decades, issues such as long waitlists, overwhelmed emergency rooms, shortages of family physicians, limited treatment availability, and ongoing mental health crises have persisted. Systemic problems remain unaddressed despite constant restructuring. Albertans deserve a healthcare system that meets their needs.

I believe governments often create obstacles for themselves and are not incentivized to act quickly due to concerns about re-election or popularity. Policies such as mandatory balanced budgets, enforcement of unpaid corporate taxes, and requirements for ratepayer capital projects to be completed or scheduled could drive real accountability. If someone in office cannot accomplish what is needed, others should be empowered to step in. We have all heard the refrain: “You didn’t get it done last time.” So what will make this time different?

As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We need politicians not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity.”
